Most Americans think protection begins when violence starts.

 

Professional protectors understand that protection begins long before an incident occurs.

 

The greatest failures in personal and family security rarely occur because someone lacked the ability to fight. They occur because threats were not identified, risks were not mitigated, and decisions were not made early enough to prevent a crisis from developing.

 

RAVUS Solutions identified a significant operational gap within both the civilian preparedness and firearms communities.

 

Many individuals possess the skills necessary to respond to violence.

 

Few possess the skills necessary to recognize danger before it occurs, avoid unnecessary risk, move safely through uncertain environments, or protect others during a critical incident.

 

Protection Concepts I was developed to address that gap.

 

 

COURSE OVERVIEW

 

Protection Concepts I serves as the foundational course within the RAVUS protective operations pipeline.

 

Drawing from executive protection, protective intelligence, risk management, and real-world protective operations, students are introduced to the principles used by professional protectors to safeguard clients, families, and communities.

 

This is not an executive protection certification course.

 

This is not a bodyguard course.

 

This course focuses on developing a protective mindset and teaching students how to identify threats, manage risk, plan movements, and make sound decisions before problems become emergencies.

 

Every concept taught within the course is adapted through the lens of the prepared citizen.

 

Whether protecting family members during travel, responding to civil unrest, navigating public events, or moving through unfamiliar environments, students learn practical methods for increasing safety and reducing vulnerability.

 

Protection Concepts I serves as the foundation for advanced protective operations training within the RAVUS Solutions training pathway.

 

 

WHY THIS COURSE EXISTS

 

Most people spend their lives moving through public spaces without ever consciously assessing risk.

 

They assume emergencies will be obvious.

 

They assume danger will announce itself.

 

Reality often works differently.

 

Threats are frequently identified long before violence occurs.

 

Protective professionals are successful because they learn to recognize indicators, identify vulnerabilities, and make decisions that prevent problems from developing.

 

Protection Concepts I teaches students how to think proactively rather than reactively.

 

The objective is not simply surviving danger.

 

The objective is avoiding it whenever possible.

 

 

EDUCATE – TRAIN – PERFORM

 

EDUCATE

Students learn the principles of protective operations, threat recognition, risk assessment, and protective planning.

 

TRAIN

Students develop practical skills through observation exercises, movement drills, route planning, protective formations, and scenario-based problem solving.

 

PERFORM

Students apply those skills during practical exercises designed to replicate realistic security and protection challenges.

 

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

 

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

STUDENT EXPERIENCE

 

Throughout the course students will learn to view environments through the eyes of a protector.

 

Students should expect to:

  • Analyze environments

  • Identify vulnerabilities

  • Conduct movement planning

  • Evaluate threats

  • Escort and move individuals

  • Solve security problems

  • Participate in realistic protective scenarios

 

Students are challenged to think proactively and identify solutions before problems escalate.

 

 

COURSE OUTCOME

 

Upon successful completion of Protection Concepts I, students will possess a foundational understanding of protective operations and the practical skills required to identify threats, manage risk, and protect others in uncertain environments.

 

Students will leave with a framework for applying professional protection principles to family security, community preparedness, and everyday life.

 

Successful completion qualifies students for attendance in:

  • Protection Concepts II

  • Dynamic Asset Defender Course (D.A.D.C.)

 

Protection Concepts I establishes the foundation for all advanced RAVUS protective operations training.

Specific equipment requirements will be provided prior to attendance.

Everyday Carry Equipment:

Students are encouraged to attend with the equipment they normally carry
so they can evaluate its strengths and limitations.
